Belle Époque

The Belle Époque — roughly 1885 to 1914 in continental Europe — is the visual high point of coffee, tea, and tobacco advertising. The chromolithographic press matured, the Paris and Brussels print shops took on the work of the great illustrators, and the European café network reached its peak density. Posters, programs, and trade cards from this period are the visual backbone of any serious coffee archive.

An independent visual archive of coffee, 1700–1925. We work through Wellcome, Gallica, the Rijksmuseum, Museu Paulista, the Library of Congress, and the institutional collections where the printed record of coffee survives. We restore what we find. Nothing is designed, nothing is faked.
